Glastonbury, CT April 16, 2009. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2009 season.

04/16/2009- The Guppies and Jimmy Stickhandle met up for the first time since the two teams squared off in the Summer 2008 Championship Series. A series that saw the Guppies fall to JS two games to one. A series that was won after the Guppies were given several questionable penalties in the third and deciding game. Thursday night was a chance for a little pay back! However, It didn't work out so well for the Fish! Jimmy Stickhandle came out and scored four goals on their first five shots.....Just in case you missed that ....Jimmy Stickhandle scored FOUR goals on their first FIVE shots. Ask to comment about the goals after the Game Joe Linskey simply stated "I Suck!". Hard to argue with the Guppies veteran netminder with such a rough start. Things got better for Linskey and the Guppies midway through the Half as Tim Poulin (1-1-2) scored a shorthanded goal to finally get the Fish on the board. Rob Murphy (1-2-3) scored minutes later to cut Jimmy's lead in half, 4-2. Jimmy widened their lead again with their 5th goal of the game but the Guppies were quick to answer. Keith Millen  (1-1-2) scored to make it 5-3 with less than a minute left in the Half. The game turned ugly seconds later as Jimmy Stickhandle's Tim Jordin cross checked Guppie's defenseman Mike Halle in the head. Halle was fine and Jordin was ejected from the game.

In the Second half, the Guppies took control of the game as they peppered Jimmy's netminder. Their hard work had quick rewards as Jon Stevenson (2-1-3) scored on a low shot from the point.  Stevenson caught fire as he scored again, tying the game with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Late in the Half Stevenson would blast a shot from the point which was deflected by Brian Kelly (1-0-1) into the JS net. It was the Guppies first lead of the game. The Guppies played solid defense late and Linskey made several great saves as Jimmy Stickhandle looked for the equalizer. However, with just under .90 seconds remaining in the game Kelly failed to clear the puck out of the zone, at one point shooting the puck off the back of the net. JS turned this mistake into their good fortune tying the game at Six.  Jimmy Stickhandle finished off the Guppies as they scored with .30 seconds remaining in OT. The Guppies skated off the dek having out played JS, out shooting them 42-24, but still looking for revenge!

The Guppies have a week off before squaring off against Pro Health on Thursday April 30th at 9pm. Tickets are limited as the Guppies avenge an earlier lost to Pro Health this season (6-3). Thursday night will also be Joe Linskey Bobble head night ....a Free bobble head to the first 5 people in the door. Get there early!!

SIDE NOTES:

- Dan Pequita and Dave Armenia were scratched.

- Dan Pequita suffered an upper body injury in last week's game vs House Brothers. Team doctor's have confirmed Pequita will be out of the line up for the next four to six weeks.

-Jon Stevenson had his best game of the season scoring 2 goals and adding 1 helper. However, if you ask Jon. He had three goals and can't believe he's not the Guppies player of the week. That honor went to Jay Zito and his 4 assists.

- No Game next week as Rob Murphy, Keith Millen, Tim Poulin and Brian Kelly head north to Montreal to play in an Ice Hockey Tourney....Good luck boys. Look for Kelly, Murphy, and Poulin at the Habs/Bruins game four at the Bell Centre Wednesday night.

- Jimmy Stickhandle's Jordin has been suspended for 5 games  for his cross checking incident with Mike Halle.
