Burned!! Guppies Lose to Fire Ants in OT 5-4

Glastonbury, CT May 21, 2009. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2009 season.

05/21/2009-   Guppies Nation saw the hometown heroes put up a valiant effort against the Fire Ants, only to see them loose in a shoot out. Going in to the game, the Guppies still had a shot to make the play-offs, if House Brothers lost their game @ 8 and if the Guppies won their game against the Fire Ants and if they won by more than 2 goals. If you were thinking to yourself, that's a lot of "ifs," your right. As it turned out, House Brothers won their game, eliminating the Guppies from play-off contention. Nevertheless, the Guppies tried to sweep the season series from the Fire Ants and end the Spring season on a positive note and build for the summer or fall season.

The sports psychologist the Guppiea hired appears to have been a tad late in helping the Guppies overcome their hijinx to start a game as
the Guppies would get on the board first. Jon Stevenson (1, 1) snapped off a nasty wrister set up by Tim Poulin (2, 1) and Marc Crayton (0, 2) that the Fire Ants goalie had no chance of stopping. The Fire Ants would tie the score almost immediately, 18 seconds later to be exact. That was all the scoring for the 1st half as both goalies were tested repeatedly and they were both up to the task.

The Guppies would start the scoring off in the second half as Tim Poulin would get the 1st of his two goals. Poulin was set up by Dan Pequita (0, 1) who made his return to the Guppies line up after recovering from lower, upper, lower upper and upper lower body injuries. Dan said he felt like his conditioning was right were it was before the injuries occurred, which is remarkable considering he missed several games because of those injuries. Poulin would add his second goal, this time set up by a Crayton face-off win (that's not a misprint or typo, Crayton actually won the face-off) back to Stevenson, who would find Poulin to make it 3 to 1 Guppies.

Those of you die hards in Guppies nation know that no Guppies lead is safe. As such, when you give up 49 shots, the team with 49 shots is
bound to find the net sooner or later. The Fire Ants would find the net both sooner and later, as they would score 3 unanswered goals to make it 4 - 3 Fire Ants. Joe Linskey kept the Guppies in the game all night giving up 4 goals on 49 shots and afterwards he mentioned that his session(s) with Dr. Everythingisgonnabealright were really helpful. We watched some film from back in the day and noticed a couple of things that really made a difference. Perhaps one of the most important things was that I visualized Kelly not being on defense. The Guppies weren't done scoring yet, Rob Murphy (1, 0) would tie the
score as he sent a wrister from the point through a maze of players to tie the score at 4. Murphy was set up by Jason Zito (0, 1) and Stevenson.

Overtime would see both teams with chances to win, but this game would end in a shoot out with the Guppies coming up on the short end of the
shoot out.

Guppies nation and the Guppies now have time to reflect on what was a disappointing Spring campaign. There are many questions in Guppies nation, can they play in this division, will the front office make moves to improve the team, will Mike Keenan be instituting Camp Keenan in Guppies nation, will the sports psychologist remain with the team.

SIDE NOTES:

- Mike Halle and Keith Millen were healthy scratches and Brian Mulcahy

- missed the game due to his one game suspension for verbal abuse of Ref # 2.
