Avalanche Escape Guppies Comeback 7-6!

Glastonbury, CT March 12, 2008. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2009 season.

03/12/2009- The Guppies opened up there Spring 2009 season against the Avalanche, a team they had beaten fairly easily a few months back in the Zrink Xmas tournament. However this night the Lanche were out for some revenge. The game was delayed almost 40 minutes which worked out great for Tim Poulin (2-0-2) who originally forgot his equipment and had to return home to get it.  Poulin made the trek and wouldn't miss a shift. However, the Guppies looked as if they were missing their game fins as The Avs opened up a quick 3-0 lead. Linskey, like the rest of the team, struggled early on. For his efforts Mr Linskey will be purchasing next weeks 30-pack, Thanks Joe! Tim Poulin finally got the Guppies on the board with a high rising slap shot that even he isn't went in the net. However, the refs counted it and at that point of the game the Guppies need to catch a break. The Lanche responded with a last second Power Play goal to take a 4-1 lead into the Half.

With the Season opener going horribly wrong the Guppies tried to stay positive. An early power play chance is exactly what the doctor ordered....The Gupps made the most of their opportunity as Poulin scored his second goal of the game. The Avs countered only minutes later as Steve Price scored the first of his four "Garbage"  goals in front of the Guppies net. Rob Murphy (1-2-3) got the Guppies back on track with his first of the season. Seconds later, Brian Kelly (2-1-3) scored to cut the Avs lead to 5-4. Then a minute later Murphy would feed Keith Millen (1-0-1) in the high slot.....Millen buried the shot and tied the game at Five. The Guppies had just rattled off three goals in less then two minutes! There was new life in the Bowl!!  The Avalanche's Price would beat Linskey again  to grab the 6-5 lead with just under .90 seconds remaining. Kelly would tie the score .17 seconds later to tie the game at Six. The Guppies weren't going down without a fight. Murphy was called for a later hooking penalty as the Lanche went on the Power Play again. As they did all night the Avs buried on the Power play with .45 seconds remaining. The Guppies had several chances at the end of the game but couldn't find the back of the net.

The Guppies face off next Thursday but the time and opponent have yet  TBD. Check back often for details.
