Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT May 12, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.
May 12, 2005 - Before I get started on the update, I'd like everyone to know that I never saw the movie Reservoir Dogs. Anything that I know about the movie came from watching Swingers a few hundred times. So, unfortunately there will be movie references throughout this write-up, Thanks! The Gupps and the Reservoir Dogs faced off Thursday night with the regular season winding down and playoff positioning on the line. Both teams came out strong and the goaltending was solid on both ends, Thank god after Linskey's performance last week. The Gupps would open the scoring when Jay Zito (1-5-6) found Brian Kelly (1-2-3) in the high slot. Fifty seconds later Kelly would return the favor when he set up J. Zito's only goal of the night. The Guppies controlled the play early on but couldn't seem to find the back of the net. Then again it's hard to find the net when some players drink before games, wouldn't you agree Pequita? The Gupps would take the 3-0 lead with just under a minute remaining in the first. Mike Halle (1-0-1) made a great individual play, after being set up by J. Zito, and knocked in his own rebound from his knees. After the game Halle admitted that he wasn't sure he scored "I had no idea it was in the net until I saw Ref pointing to the net". At the Half Gupps up 3-0!
In the Second Tim Poulin (3-1-4) finally got started, he's still suffering from Jet Lag from his "Meet The Guppies World Tour", When he buried a pass from Rob Murphy (1-2-3). Only seconds later the "Zito Brothers Show" began as Craig Zito (2-2-4) finished a pass from his brother Jay. Even a blind dog, or in Pequita's case and buzzed dog, finds a bone every now and then, Dan Pequita (1-1-2) scored! The flood gates were now open, I mean Danny scored, what's next Crayton scoring a goal? Not yet!! Murphy fired a one timer from J. Zito to make it 6-0 Guppies. The Gupps made it 7-0 when CZ scored from a JZ pass, They do that a lot!! Only one minute later, As Promised, Marc Crayton (1-1-2) scored for his ninth goal of the season. However, as always, when Crayton scores look out because something bad is about to happen and it did at the 8:12 mark of the half. The Guppies lost the shut out Dan Buonopane beat Linskey to the short side. Thanks Cray!!! The Gupps would mercy the Dogs late in the second half as Poulin rounded out the Guppies scoring with a pair of goals.
The Guppies face off next week at 9pm vs the Blades. Johnny "Blue Line" Carroll will be available to sign autographs after the game at the ZRink Pro Shop. Get there early!!
