Official Press Release |
Glastonbury, CT May 05, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.
May 5, 2005 - The Guppies took to the Dek Thursday night the same way they did 10 years earlier however this time around they were the Heavy Favorites vs the Fighting Saints. Ten Years earlier the Guppies were anything but the favorites as they faced off against the MapleLeafs. However both games started out the same as the Guppies were fin slapped by the Fighting Saints early in this game. Before they knew what was going on the Guppies were down 2-0 to the Saints. It looked as if Linskey was still hung over from his Cinco De Mayo autograph signing session at "On the Border" in Rocky Hill early in the day. "I sucked tonight" stated Linskey as he strolled down the Red Carpet at the Guppies post game 10th anniversary celebration. " It happens once every three years, I'm good till 2008!" Brian Kelly (3-2-5) got the Gupps on track as he finished a two on one with Rob Murphy (1-3- 4). Dan Pequita (2-0-2) tied the score at two just over a minute later. Jason Zito (3-2-5) would give the Guppies the 3-2 lead at the 11:03 mark of the first. As they did all night the Saints fought back and tied the score at 3. Craig Zito (1-2-3) gave the Gupps the lead again with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. Pequita and J. Zito each scored to added to the Guppies lead, at the half the Gupps were up 6-4.
In the Second Half the Fighting Saints made it a one goal game as Dave Stolfi beat Linskey for his only goal of the night. With the score 6-5 the game was a lot closer than anyone thought it would be. However the Guppies were about to pull away despite Linskey's shaky play. He actually looked better as the game went on; it must have been the power of the Mexican Holiday! Kelly would score again to give the Guppies the 2 goal lead. at the 13:49 mark Murphy scored his only goal of the night to grow the Gupps lead to three. Late in the Game the shorthanded Saints started to run out of steam. J. Zito and Kelly would score again to give each of them Hat tricks on the night. Also, Marc Crayton (1-0-1) scored the final Guppies tally as the went on to beat the Fighting Saints 11-5
The Guppies face off next Thursday at 11pm vs the Reservoir Dogs. As always the late night ticket prices are in effect for the game. Stay tuned to killingworth-guppies.com for all the 10th Game Post games party stories. Several TV, Movie, and Sports Celebrities were seen at the Killingworth Inn Thursday night which hosted the celebration.
SIDE NOTES:
- Tim Poulin was a scratch Thursday night as he continued the "Meet the Guppies" World Tour in Israel
- Sore Thumb: Mike Halle saw originally a scratch for Thursday's game after cutting his Right Thumb earlier in the week. However, Mike sucked it up and played every one of his shifts Thursday night.
- Linskey was absolutely awful Thursday night posting his worst GAA and lowest Save Percentage of the Season Thursday night. However, Linskey's night turned better later as he was seen leaving the Killingworth Inn with Shannon Elizabeth on his arm.
