Official Press Release

Blades Afraid to Play Guppies Forfeit Playoff Game

Glastonbury, CT June 6, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

June 6, 2005 - I guess there is a first for everything!  Monday night was definitely a first for the Killingworth Guppies when management of the ZRink in Glastonbury told them that their opponent (The Blades) for Monday night's Quarter Finals was forfeiting the game because they were afraid to play. Guppies Team Captain Brian Kelly was disappointed to hear about the Blades decision "I've never heard of such a thing, it's kind of BS. It's like taking a dive in a fight! The other thing that sucks is they just told the rink about their decision only hours before the game."  Playoff seeding was settled on May 27th which means the Blades had over a week to notify league officials that they weren't intending to play. An upset Craig Zito vented to the Killingworth media "It's just Bush (league)! I'm sure another team would have loved the opportunity to play!"  League officials also notified that Guppies that the Blades thought they were too good to be in the ball league "they are too good, they're like professionals!"  An interesting comment, one that Guppies Netminder Joe Linskey rebuffed "It says right at the top of our Home page 'America's Favorite NON-PROFESSIONAL Sports Franchise' I guess they can read so well". Several Guppies were quick to point this same fact out. The Guppies also provide a link to a definition to Non-Professional on their home page (you can follow it here: Non-professional).

The Guppies used the dek time to work on their puck game as the team looks to move to puck next season. The Guppies face off on Thursday at 900pm vs the winner of the Pepsi Express and Reservoir Dogs Quarter Finals game. General admission tickets go on sale Tuesday at 9am.
