Official Press Release

Guppies Beat Up Evil Sports 9-1!

Glastonbury, CT May 26, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

May 26, 2005 - The Guppies faced off against the second place Evil Sports on Thursday night for the fight for first place. The Guppies were fired up for the game and expected more of a challenge from Evil Sports. However, Evil Sports tried to cheap shot and bully their way to first place, That doesn't work on these Fish! The Guppies quickly learned why Evil Sports leads the league in penalty minutes as they hit the Guppies from the drop of the ball. "We were expecting a much better game from them" stated Guppies Captain Brian Kelly "However, they tried to scare us in attempt to get the victory....Not a good strategy!"  Craig Zito started the scoring when he roofed a pass from Dan Pequita.  Later Mike Halle would make it 2-0 on a shot from the point. Evil Sports would make it 2-1 at the 10:29 mark of the first but that's as close as it would get as the guppies opened it up. Jay Zito made it 3-1 only seconds later!  With just over 7 minutes remaining C. Zito and Pequita connected again to make it 4-1! Late in the first Rob Murphy scored on a shot from the point! Murphy was quick to point out that he was left wide open, apparently the Evil Sports forwards were unaware that they should cover the point in the defensive zone. I guess a lesson was learned!

In the second C. Zito kept  giving Evil Sports more than they could handled as he finished off the Hat Trick. The ES netminder seemed to be frustrated in the ease in which C. Zito scored. His frustration only grew as C. Zito scored again only seconds later (Yeah that's 4! just in case you were counting at home!) Pequita would make it 9-1 when he scored with 14:33 remaining. Evil Sports obviously embarrassed resorted to running several Guppy players. The Evil Sports plan back fired at the 11:30 mark when they lost so many players they couldn't field a team. I guess it was a good idea as the Guppies eyed in on a Mercy Victory, however the writing was on the wall, The Guppies Win!
