Official Press Release

Guppies Scalp Chiefs in Final Seconds of Game 7-6 final

Glastonbury, CT April 21, 2005. ZRink - Killingworth Guppies Spring 2005 season.

April 21, 2005 - Guppies burn down Chiefs village & scalp Chiefs in final seconds of game 7-6 final April 21, 2005 - Guppies maintained their undefeated status Thursday night defeating the Chiefs with only 37 seconds remaining in regulation play. That's right Thursday nights game was the closest of the season for the Gupps. Scoring started early as Tim Poulin accidentally scored first for the Chiefs a minute into play.  Zito would strike back unassisted just under 4 minutes in to tie the game at one.    Activity was fierce in the defensive zone as Linskey slapped away shot after shot, at one point standing on his head, it was a magical night for Joe. One fan commented that Joe probably had not seen this much action since the early 90's.  Poulin would also come back with a redeemer and an assist for Zito's second of the night which put the fish up by 1 at the half. Second period Chiefs went on the war path sensing an opportunity, and scored two goals to get ahead.  Poulin answered with one, then the Chiefs scored another two making the score 6-4 with about 6 minutes remaining. Halle took a shot in the eye breaking up a Chiefs goal scoring attempt, the high stick sidelines play just long enough for the Gupps to take a deep breath. Guppies rally starts up again with 2:35 remaining in the second half with a team effort goal from Halle, to Zito to Poulin.  Battle continues to the 45 second mark when Carroll hits the back of the net from the blue line with his patented knuckle shot (a high blooper that appears to move fast but actually moves very slowly deaking the goalie).  Off the ensuing face off, Zito connects with Poulin for the game winner with 37 seconds remaining.
