Guppies Swim on despite NHL Lock Out!!
Special Report: by Jim Carr
February!! A month of cold and snow, hot chocolate and warm fires, but most importantly
a month for Hockey. Well, Not this year! Not with the on going lockout that has
Millionaires fighting Millionaires over Millions of Dollars. No, I'm not talking
about a reunion episode of "Dallas" I'm talking about the NHL! However,
for us lucky few that live in the small town of Killingworth, CT there is still
hope. You can feel the excitement growing with every passing day, at the Killingworth
Inn, the Circle store, or the New Dunkin Donuts in town. Excitement not that the
NHL players will finally realize that they're grossly overpaid, but for Guppies
Hockey!!
Thoughout this little town, on the local ponds, you can see the young people skating
around, not in their Sakic or Thornton jerseys but in their Murphy, Poulin, or
Armenia jerseys. This is Guppies Nation make no mistake about it and Hockey is
alive and well here. Ken Stevenson of the "Guppies Nation" Gift shop
on Route 80 has seen a the excitement grow "You can tell that everyone is
getting geared up for the upcoming Spring season. We are starting to see a rise
in business since the post holiday rush" Why wouldn't there be excitement?
The Guppies have captured back to back Championships in the 2004 Spring and Summer
seasons. "Winning isn't something we want, it's something we expect with
the Guppies" stated Killingworth Resident Jeff Barlow.
What about the Guppies? What is their take on the Lock-out and the up coming season?
I was able to reach Guppies Goaltender Joe Linskey at his "off season"
home in Del Boca Vista, FL. "I'm not worried about the NHL's situation and
the impact it's having on the game. I'm busy working on my tan and picking up
some hot chicks!" Linskey added "As long as I get my Medals and T-shirt
at the end of the season.....We got no problems!!" Guppies forward Craig
Zito had a different slant on the Upcoming season. "All I know is I need
a new Jersey, who wears # 78? I wasn't born in 1978!! I need a new Jersey!"
He continued yelling while sipping on his Martini at Max's Oyster Bar in Downtown
West Hartford "(Brian) Kelly needs to recognize my talents and get my #10
jersey!!" Finally, I was able to catchup with Guppies forward/goalie Marc
Crayton at a local gym and get his thoughts on the upcoming season. "We've
got a great group of guys with a lot of talent, however, our off-season training
is not where it should be. I work out with Kelly and occasionally Legolie, but
lord knows what the other guys are up to. I heard that (Dan) Pequita hasn't been
off his couch since our last game." These comments would have a lesser reporter,
or lesser fan for that matter, worried for the upcoming 2005 seasons, but, at
least they're not fighting over money.
So What does the new season of Guppies Hockey hold in store for this beloved franchise
and it's ever growing fan base? Hockey!! and to the fans, and more or less the
players, in Guppies Nation that's Enough!
