| Sirius/XM Brings "Guppies
Nation" to the World!
8/12/08- Mel Karmazin, CEO of Sirius/XM Radio, was in Killingworth
earlier this week to announce a new deal with Killingworth Guppies Sports
Net to add "America's favorite nonprofessional franchise" into the satellite
radio family. Karmazin is coming off the merger of Sirius and XM and stated
that getting a deal done with the Guppies was a "top priority".
"We have been looking to get a deal with the Killingworth Guppies
for the past few years and now all the stars seemed to have aligned" stated
Karmazin "This will be the second biggest deal in Satellite Radio behind
the 2005 signing of Howard Stern".
Details of the deal are still limited, but, the staff at the Killingworth
Krier were able to confirm some. The term of the deal is five years and
the Killingworth Guppies will be paid nothing, natta, not a cent, for
their participation. "We felt we couldn't take any money for this deal
in an effort to keep our 'nonprofessional' status in check" stated Guppies
spokesman Shasta McNasty. "That's what we like about the deal" explained
a laughing Karmazin.
All Killingworth Guppies preseasom, regular season, and playoff games
will be broadcasted on "Guppies Nation" Channel 95 on Sirius. Channel
95 represents the year the Guppies were founded, 1995. Exclusive player
interviews will be allowed before and after every Guppies game on Channel
95. On non Guppie Game days the channel will consist of music programmed
by the players themselves. If you hear any Neil Diamond or Flock of Seagulls it's
safe to say that's a Joe Linskey song.
Along with the Music, many of the team members will have their own shows. Several players have already been chosen to host. Shows already on the channel's schedule include, "Tummy Time" with Brian Mulcahy, this program deals with the field of amateur movie making. "Stick Side Low" with Joe Linskey will deal with why Joe seems to get lit up more often then not. Then there's "A to Z" with Dave Armenia and Jason Zito, this show will focus on all the locker room gossip. And finally, a wacky weekday morning show "On the Deck with Murphy and Millen" will show the lighter side of these two Guppie Allstars. Other programs include "Classic Guppies" an in depth look at Guppie
teams of yesteryear which will included interviews with both fans, current,
and former players.
McNasty made it clear that with this deal the Killingworth Guppies
hope to grow Guppies Nation "Its our goal to make the Guppies
not only America's Favorite Nonprofessional Sports Franchise but the World's
as well".
When ask to comment on McNasty's statement Karmazin added "Sounds
good to me! Now how the heck do I get back to New York?"
