Guppies Sign Craig Zito,  Look to the Future

By Stewy Griffen

Killingworth, CT --  After winning their Fifth Team Championship this past spring the Guppies front office sat down to focus on the Draft. The fans in Killingworth have short memories and the Guppies need to be a contender every year.  It is no big secret that the Guppies are getting older and might have to retool in a few years. However,  Killingworth has  always been a team to recognize their weakness and make changes before they are necessary.

Well, it did take awhile for the Giant weakness in Goal, with Linskey and Crayton, to be fixed with the signing of Legolie last season.

The Guppies have learned from their mistakes and are looking to the future now.  Enter the Guppies newest prospect Craig Zito (Drafted this year in the 4th round). Zito recently turned 24 and is thought to be the future of the organization. "The future of the organization??" a confused Tim Poulin stated "You are looking at the future of Guppy Nation right here!".

Craig will be joining his older brother Jason Zito who has been with Killingworth since the 2001 season. The Gupps are familiar with having two brothers in the line up. Steve and Peter Fink were the first brothers to play with the Guppies back in 1995 and again in 1997. However, this is a larger family affair as Rob Murphy and the Zitos are actually  cousins.

Craig seemed to be very excited to sign with the Guppies "my agent called me on Monday to let me know the Guppies were interested....do you know the money i had to give up to come to the Guppies?".

"It's not about the money, it's about winning a Championship. I had teams all over the Country calling me and I decided on the Guppies because of the tradition, and, I heard there are a lot groupies that come along with being a Guppy.  Oh yeah,  the warm ups are pretty sweet too.  It doesn't even matter to me that my jersey was a hand me down from my cousins wife, however  I am sure my agent will be bringing that up to upper management when i sign my commitment papers"

Zito seems to be foggy on how things work in Killingworth. Despite his high profile numbers while playing hockey over at CCSU, he is still the low man on the totem pole. Dave Armenia  "I don't care who he (C. Zito) is and if he is the Future that kid better pay me some respect. I was out here winning championships when he was in diapers!"  John Carroll was a little more open to the Guppies new signing " He's Jay's brother so how bad can he be?"  Murphy added "I can't wait for the Rookie Dinner!  I hope Craig's got a big Credit line"

The fans have been more supportive! At the Country Cloverleaf in Killingworth Craig Zito jerseys are selling like hot cakes. Carl, an employee at the Cloverleaf, stated " Number 78 has been very popular since Zito's signing. Only Legolie's jersey has sold more over the past week."

Later in the day a group of women were at the Country skillet ordering a late lunch. They all had on Guppies Jerseys (Crayton, Kelly, Poulin, Pequita) as they talked about last weeks game I noticed a young baby in a Guppies jersey. Sure enough he had Craig Zito's number 78!

A sign of things to come!
